Here at Intermountain Humane Society, we’re working hard to expand our impact and offer our many furry friends happy healthy lives!
We are passionate about advocating for animals in need and placing them with the very best families; together we’ve accomplished so much!
Our goals are…
To maintain our 100% placement rate for adoptable animals.
Act as a lifeline to under-served regional shelters.
Reduce the overpopulation of dogs and cats through spay/neuter.
Provide educational programs to regional schools.
Promote animal health and responsible pet ownership
Assist under-served community members through pet retention programming.
No one dog or cat is the same and they come to Intermountain with all kinds of hardships, but we are proud to report that last year 587 animals found loving homes right here in our community. 587 dogs and cats found families that are devoted to their health, happiness, and quality of life, and this would not have been possible without your support!
It’s an exciting time!
This year Richard Solosky joined the Intermountain team. His extensive knowledge and experience in nonprofit management coupled with his love for animals will help us expand our capacity and impact. We've been knee deep in organizational assessment and making improvements in efficiency and effectiveness. With Richard’s leadership, we intend to set the standard in animal care and welfare in our community and become the best little shelter in the universe!
Who is our new Executive Director?
Richard is a 30 year resident of our mountain community. He comes with a strong business development background, starting and successfully selling two software development companies, but more importantly, he has a deep understanding of nonprofit management. Armed with a master’s degree in nonprofit management, he has over the last 15 years served in both nonprofit board and staff roles, while guiding dozens of organizations through many leadership challenges with strategic advice and best practice consultation.
We are evolving as an organization to better address the needs of the community.
We want you and your family to have the best experience with your new family member, so in the coming year we will be offering new educational resources focused on pet retention, behavioral help, and breed specific information.
We have made many operational improvements from big to little; from providing a lost pet/re-home pet link on our website, to new updated shelter management software. These improvements allow our staff and volunteers to work more efficiently and to free up time for them to focus on the animals that need them most.
We’ve made shelter improvements too! Among them is the Cattery. At the beginning of 2018 we completed renovating what used to be an old office in the shelter, it is now an open cat room (We've dubbed it the "Cattery"). With the help of some very creative youth volunteers and our hard working staff, we painted and hung shelves. We have had great success with shy and difficult cats becoming more social and friendly with the space to roam and meet people on their own terms.
And, let’s not forget our individual successes like Bella. She was a 6 month old hound mix that came to us from an over-crowded shelter in New Mexico. When we got her there were no signs of any problems, but a few weeks into her stay we noticed problems with her gate and the way she sat. She had one of the worst cases of hip dysplasia our vet, Dr. Palmini had ever seen. We fund-raised for over 5 months and with the help of the community, were able to get her double hip replacements. She went to her new home in June and is living just the best life.
We are proud of what we’ve accomplished this year, but there is still more that we can do and only with your help can we succeed.
The future is about to get even brighter!
We value you as a compassionate partner and with your continued help we are looking to accomplishing all that we’ve set out to do. Your consistent support and belief in our mission is what got 587 animals in to safe loving homes last year. Despite many hurdles this year, to date we have placed nearly 400 animals with loving families. We are so proud to have already improved this many lives and we’re pressing to push that over 500 this year. With Richard’s leadership, we have set a lofty goal to find new homes for at least 750 animals in 2019. Without your time, talents, and treasures, we wouldn’t have been able to do that. Colorado Gives Day is kicking off our end of the year campaign with a goal of $50,000 raised by December 31st, 2018.
Your year-end donation today supports our plan to allocate $30,000 to directly helping us save more animals with housing, food, cleaning supplies and medical supplies. While $20,000 will help us increase our programs for the public to become invaluable members of our community and a leading resource in animal welfare.
